A theoretical model is developed to study the relative influence of aluminium transport in the gas phase and diffusion in the solid on the pack aluminization of iron and steel. It allows the surface composition of the coating and its growth rate to be calculated. These two parameters depend on the treatment temperature, the aluminium activity in the pack and the activator type. The experimental data on the aluminization of iron and stainless steel in various alloy packs are in fairly good agreement with the predictions." @default.
