- W2020014897 abstract "Abstract The second law of thermodynamics has been applied to determine entropy production for rib-type turbulence promoters in channel duct flow in order to develop a criterion to assess heat-transfer performance. Correlations of heat-transfer coefficient and friction factor are obtained by using Tanasawa's experimental data and several numerical examples are given, which show the distribution of entropy-production rate and other parameters vs Reynolds number for various values of e H and open area ratios β. A new parameter Na is proposed to describe the ratio of augmentation of heat-transfer efficiency to degradation of availability by irreversibility. Since Na is larger than unity, the increase of the heat-transfer efficiency by an enhancement technique is greater than the available work loss. A performance-evaluation criterion based on the entropy-production theorem is found to be more appropriate than a first-law analysis in low Reynolds number conditions." @default.
