- W2020070574 abstract "Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.), sea trout (Salmo trutta L.), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus L.) were exposed to light-dark cycles with light intensities of 0.6 and 150 lux respectively. During exposure, vertical activity was monitored by IR photo cells. The results generally showed that turning the light on or off increased the activity of the fish and caused them to move downward. Salmon, sea trout and charr were less active at the lower light intensity than at the higher. Moreover, the change in activity of Atlantic salmon and charr was more pronounced when the light was turned on, while sea trout and rainbow trout reacted most vigorously when light was turned off. A rapid change in activity is interpreted as a stress response and it is concluded that sudden transitions between darkness and light, no matter how small, should be avoided in fish farming." @default.
