- W2020303946 abstract "Abstract The fractal dimensionality of colloids was determined by correlating the sedimentation rate and the mass of latex aggregates. Two types of aggregates were studied: one was generated in the presence of electrolytes and the other in the presence of polyelectrolytes. Conditions for destabilization by electrolytes were selected to induce a reversible coagulation/fragmentation process. The corresponding fractal dimensionality of the clusters was found to be 2.4. For aggregation experiments performed in the presence of polyelectrolytes, the pH and the polymer concentration were fixed to induce a reaction limited process and a subsequent cluster stabilization. The fractal dimensionality was found to be 2.0 for this class of aggregates. Compact aggregates resulted from the existence of combined coagulation and fragmentation processes followed by internal reorganization. The expected low dimensionality of polymer stabilized aggregates was consecutive to the local stiffness imposed by the surrounding polymer layer." @default.
