- W2020448608 abstract "Three synthetic cannabinoid derivatives were applied topically to rabbit eyes twice daily for a year and intraocular pressure and body weight were measured every two weeks. Twelve rabbits initially received each drug. The intraocular pressure always showed a fall of about 15–25%, depending on the drug, which was sustained for about 3 hr before rising slightly; topical administration of a second drop 4 hr after the first usually caused the intraocular pressure to return to the level of the maximum fall. No tolerance was noted since the intraocular pressure fall was the same at the end of the year as it was the first week. Organ weights were measured at the end of the year and revealed that the liver weight (g/100 g body weight) of all treated groups was significantly decreased. One drug, the least effective in terms of intraocular pressure reduction, caused a weight decrease in four of the seven organs examined. The most effective intraocular pressure-reducing drug (a water soluble compound) caused only a change in liver weight. Histological examination of tissues revealed no pathological changes that were related to the experimental treatment." @default.
