- W2020480319 abstract "Instrumental neutron activation analyses of the Lower Group, Middle Group and Upper Group chromitite layers of the eastern Bushveld Complex are reported. The elements analysed were Ir (<5 to >300 ppb), Au (<1 to >240 ppb), Ni (540 to 2240 ppm), Co (101 to 370 ppm). Ir and Au are higher in the upper Critical Zone compared to the lower Critical Zone. The relationship of the element abundance to the amount and composition of the chromite in the sample, and the possible controls on the distribution of the elements are discussed. At low levels of concentration Ir is most likely controlled by discrete, primary Ir-bearing platinum-group minerals, and Au is related to small amounts of base-metal sulphide, both being sympathetic with the volume percent chromite in the sample. Higher Ir and Au levels are possibly related to sulphides present in even greater amounts." @default.
