- W2020842992 abstract "Abstract The major methods available for the in situ determination of moisture content in building materials are cited. Although there is a great need for quick and accurate measurements, the review shows that at the present time there is no universally convenient method which will provide high accuracy and resolution. The neutron or gamma-ray methods satisfy these criteria but have the disadvantage of an initial high capital cost, and the use of precautions necessary with radioactive equipment. Electrical methods tend to be imprecise, but the use of a VHF capacitance probe minimizes the effect of the salt content of the material and is worthy of development. Moisture contents deduced from thermal conductivity measurements are similarly of low accuracy. Pressure and vapour pressure measurements allow accurate determinations of the water tension in porous media, but deduction of moisture content from such values is an unreliable procedure." @default.
