- W2020930797 abstract "The spin-lattice relaxation of the 23Na nuclear spin system in monocrystalline sodium nitrate has been studied at room temperature by CW double resonance experiments. The main technique consists of severely saturating one component of the quadrupole-split spectrum and measuring the change in amplitude of the other components. In this way, the electric quadrupole and magnetic dipole contributions to the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation have been determined separately. Measurements were made on two different crystals set at various orientations relative to the large external magnetic field. The orientation dependence of the ratio of the electric quadrupole relaxation rates W2/W1 is in excellent agreement with theory, if W1 and W2 are assumed to be characterised by the same quadrupole relaxation tensor. This, in turn, indicates that the relaxation is caused by a Raman-type interaction with the lattice phonons." @default.
