- W2021308187 abstract "Dr. Philip B. Gallagher, a senior research associate at Stanford University, was accidentally electrocuted on April 13,1961, while working on a high-powered transmitter used in upper-atmosphere research studies. Dr. Gallagher played a prominent role in most of the studies conducted at the Stanford Radioscience Laboratory over the ten years preceding his death, including the first radar detection of the sun, the discovery of a permanent form of radar aurora present at medium geomagnetic latitudes, pioneering studies of very small meteors with application of this work to new techniques in radio communication, and radar studies of the lunar surface and cislunar medium. He was the project director for the Stanford program of radar studies of ionized clouds produced by chemicals released from rockets into the ionosphere (Project Firefly). At the time of his death, he was designing new experiments for the study of incoherent electron scatter in the upper atmosphere and of HF waves guided in geomagnetic ducts between the hemispheres." @default.
