- W2021924463 abstract "The mineral specimens referred to were obtained from the district between Tabriz and the Caspian, especially from the Karadagh range, at the distance of less than 100 miles from Tabriz. The ores are found near the surface. Besides those mentioned in the appended note, ores of silver and tin are also said to be found in considerable quantities outcropping on the banks of a stream near the city. Browncoal also occurs in a bed a foot thick, on the banks of a river within a few furlongs of Tabriz; and at the distance of about twelve leagues in the opposite direction (to the south, there is a plain (near Maragha) with an enormous amount of fossil bones. Alabaster is abundant in the mountain; and hot mineral springs (saline, ferruginous, and sulphurous) are numerous and of good medicinal properties. The general geological features of the district are given in Grewingk9s ‘Die geognostischen -und orographischen Verhältnisse des Nördlichen Persiens.’ 8vo. St. Petersburg, 1853." @default.
