- W2021989912 abstract "Histochemical evaluation of mucins elaborated by major sublingual and submandibular glands reveal that a heterogeneous population of mucosubstances exists. Sublingual gland mucous acinar cells synthesize periodate reactive mucins, carboxylated sialidase non-labile mucins and sulphomucins. Heterogeneity is prevalent between cells within a single acinar cluster and from acinus to acinus. Seromucous and demilune cells synthesize sialomucins. Submandibular gland mucous acinar cells also elaborate neutral, carboxy, and sulphomucins; however, the latter type is not as prevalent as in sublingual glands. Submandibular serous and demilune cells differ from those of sublingual gland in that they synthesize a zymogen-like neutral glycan. @default.
