- W2022034466 abstract "Summary Physico-chemical studies on the asymmetric hydrolytic fraction of bipolar lipids from Sulfolobus solfataricus were performed with the aid of various physical techniques, including liposome and black film formation. In these lipids one of the hydrophilic heads is glycerol, whereas the other is a unique branched chain nonitol. Electron spin resonance and differential scanning calorimetry on bulk phases at various temperatures are presented. The molecular correlation time of these lipids is up to three orders of magnitude slower than that of usual lipids with flexible chains. Several conformational changes were detected and compared with X-ray diffraction data. Similar transitions occur also in black membranes. The unusual characteristics of these membranes were compared with those of more common monopolar lipids and discussed in terms of structural diversity. In addition to a gel-liquid crystal transition, other structural changes, induced by domain reorganization, were detected." @default.
