- W2022041610 abstract "This chapter describes the methods that are used to isolate ACTH-resistant mutants from Y1 adrenal tumor cells. The Y1 adrenal tumor cell line is a well-characterized system, with functional properties similar to those of normal isolated adrenal cells. This cell line has contributed extensively to the understanding of basic mechanisms involved in hormonal regulation of adrenocortical functions and has provided an important interface among the areas of cell biology and endocrinology. The Y1 cells have been of particular interest recently, because they have been susceptible to genetic manipulation and have afforded the opportunity to apply somatic cell genetic techniques to the studies of hormone action. Laboratory has isolated two families of mutants from the Y1 cell line—one with defective adenylate cyclase systems and the other with impaired cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent protein kinase activities. These two families of mutants are used to establish the importance of cyclic nucleotides in the actions of ACTH on various adrencortical functions." @default.
