- W2022045757 abstract "Abstract The threshold doses of progesterone, corticosterone, 5α-pregnane-3,20-dione (pregnanedione), and 17 α-hydroxypregn-4-en-3-one required to facilitate sexual receptivity in ovariectomized, estrogen-primed guinea pigs were determined in order to test the hypotheses that: (1) effectiveness of steroids in facilitating sexual receptivity is inversely related to the polarity of the steroid molecule; and (2) progesterone must be reduced to pregnanedione, or some other 5α-reduced metabolite, in order to affect sexual receptivity. Both hypotheses were rejected. There was no correlation between the polarity of the steroids tested and their effectiveness in inducing lordosis. In addition, progesterone was far more effective than pregnanedione. The data also indicate that guinea pigs are more behaviorally responsive to progesterone than rats." @default.
