- W202206906 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter reviews recent work on neuroblast polarity and asymmetric cell division in the Drosophila central nervous system (CNS). The Drosophila CNS arises from asymmetric cell divisions of neural precursors, called neuroblasts. The sibling cells produced at each neuroblast division are the regenerated neuroblast and its daughter cell, called a ganglion mother cell (GMC). This chapter provides a brief introduction of neuroblast formation and specification and describes morphological and molecular features of neuroblast polarity and cell division. It presents what is known about the functions of asymmetrically localized proteins and RNAs in neuroblasts and discusses cell cycle and cytoskeletal regulatory mechanisms which are required for asymmetric protein and RNA localization in neuroblasts. It also explains asymmetric divisions of GMCs." @default.
