Prompt diagnosis of human cytomégalovirus (CMV) primo-infection in immunocompromised patients, pregnant women or new-borns calls for sensitive and specific detection of the seroconversion event by measurement of CMV-specific IgM antibodies. Four commercially available enzyme immunoassays for the qualitative measurement of CMV IgM were tested on 190 serum samples. The results of the , four techniques were perfectly correlated in 142 tested serum of the 150 routine samples. Discordant samples were discussed in this study. The Enzygnost assay (Dade-Behring) results in a high number of equivocal or indeterminate samples due to a relatively wide grey zone.
