- W2022079191 abstract "Planners increasingly promote alternative transportation, and critical geographers explore mobility in ways. Questions of rights and social justice abound within the most traversed of public spaces: the street. But geographers have only begun to explore uneven rights to mobility on, along, and across the city street. This paper explores the legal geographies of the public right-of-way, analyzing how state statutes like the Ohio Revised Code define mobility as traffic and socially construct mobile bodies, spaces, and the differential to proceed uninterruptedly. Addressing writings on public space, legal geographies, and new mobilities, the analysis suggests the importance of state statutes in codifying imaginary mobile bodies, and reflecting and reproducing uneven power geometries on the street. Statutory geographies are materialized in complex ways, suggesting the need for more research into a pressing social justice issue: the right of non-vehicular bodies to the public right-of-way." @default.
