After a brief review of the multiplanar NAH technique, results from applying the algorithm to a bowed violin (Hutchins’ SUS295) are shown for each open string. An open-frame mechanical bowing apparatus, which has been previously described, is used to excite the violin [L. M. Wang and C. B. Burroughs, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 99, 2502(A) (1996)]. Areas of significant radiation on the violin structure are identified. Measurements are also compared to results from modal analyses previously performed on the same instrument.
