In this article, issues related to training mental health professionals to work with older adults are examined. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of learning theory to this training. To this end, prior curricular models are reviewed, along with specific components of these curricula, such as supervision and practica. A comprehensive model for training mental health professionals to work with older adults is presented. All students are exposed to issues related to the mental health of older adults, and an interdisciplinary specialization is provided for students who desire more intensive training.
