- W2022155962 abstract "The dissociation products of the 80S ribosome were examined in both tris buffer systems and phosphate buffer systems. In the Tris buffer system (10 mM Tris pH 7.4) the primary dissociation products sediment at 50S and 30S. In PO4 buffer (K+, 0.05 MPO4, pH 6.9) the initial dissociation products sediment at 60S and 40S. However, much higher ratios than expected based on the size of the subunits were observed. This finding was interpreted on the bases that the 80S particle (4.1 × 106 D) could become a more relaxed form of the monosome. The sedimentation coefficient of the large subunit is found to vary in the range of 50S to 60S depending upon the ionic strength and magnesium ion concentration. The sedimentation coefficient of the small subunit varies from 30S to 40S depending on the same factors. Whether there is a loss of a small amount of material in these conversions remains an open question." @default.
