- W2022159097 abstract "Background: The ABBOTT PRISM® System is a newly developed, fully automated walk-away system providing a sample throughput of 160 samples per hour for a maximum of five different parameters. The aim of this study was to evaluate the specificity of PRISM® assays for the detection of Anti-HCV, Anti-HIV-1/HIV-2, and HBsAg. Material and Methods: 10,330 fresh blood donor sera were tested under routine conditions for the presence of Anti-HCV, Anti-HIV-1/ HIV-2 and HBsAg with the ABBOTT PRISM system and ABBOTT COMMANDER® system. Samples with repeatedly reactive and repeatedly gray area results were analyzed with additional and confirmatory assays, respectively. Results: The specificity of the PRISM® HBsAg was 100.00% in this population studied, the comparison assay gave one false-reactive result. One of the samples tested was found to be HBsAg reactive in both assays and could be confirmed. The specificity of the PRISM® HIV-1/HIV-2 was 99.87%. Thirteen samples gave repeatedly false-reactive results compared with 35 in the comparison assay. The specificity of the PRISM® HCV was 99.66%. Among 10,328 sera tested, 37 were repeatedly false-reactive in the PRISM® HCV assay compared with 14 in the comparison assay. Two samples were anti-HCV confirmed positive and were detected by both systems. Conclusions: The specificities of the ABBOTT PRISM® assays for HBsAg and Anti-HIV-1/HIV-2 are equal or better compared with the screening assays of the ABBOTT COMMANDER system. For PRISM HCV, the specificity is slightly lower due to the introduction of new recombinant antigens. It is expected to obtain an increase in specificity also for this parameter after a conversion period based on the advantages of its grade of automation. Moreover, the ABBOTT PRISM system fully meets GMP requirements and therefore an additional improvement in the quality assurance for blood products." @default.
