Die zur Synthese notwendigen „Disulfidmonoxyde”︁ lassen sich auch aus Cystin, Homocystin, Cystamin und cyclischen Disulfiden bereiten. — Die SH-Gruppen in reduziertem Haarkeratin (Schafwolle) reagieren ebenfalls leicht im Sinne der Modellversuche mit „Disulfidmonoxyden”︁ Hierbei werden unter Erhöhung des S-Gehaltes der Fasern unsymmetrisch substituierte Disulfidgruppen in das Keratin eingebaut, und es kann zu Vernetzungsreaktionen kommen. — Die sich einstellenden Gleichgewichte zwischen symmetrischen und unsymmetrischen Disulfiden RSSR + R′SSR′ ⇄ 2 RSSR′ werden durch Ermittlung von Gleichgewichtskonstanten interpretiert. Bei diesem Disulfidaustausch sind Mercaptid-Ionen und starke Säuren wirksame Katalysatoren, die Kettenreaktionen starten. Auch ultraviolettes Licht ist wirksam." @default.
