- W2022202432 abstract "Energy from vegetal biomass lato sensu (for food or for fuel) is just solar energy that has been concentrated by the various transformations involved in crop, pasture or forest production. The availability of this energy is made possible by series of low-yield conversions. Hence the solar flux needed for this production is much greater. Different transformations, conversions, losses are stated and classified here, showing the chief phenomena involved. The three main stages of conversion are: from the sun to radiant flux reaching productive surfaces; from available radiant flux to net vegetal production; and from vegetal production to harvest. From a more precise point of view, fifteen distinct stages are briefly shown with for each of them a description of the mechanisms involved and a quantitative estimation of the energy yield. This paper deals only with agricultural production, ie, mainly food crops where couplings between transfer processes are common. The guideline shown here appears interesting for the more complex study of terrestrial animal biomass production and marine biomass production." @default.
