- W2022203937 abstract "Abstract The effect of antilymphocyte serum (ALS) on lymphoblastoid cell lines was studied. These cell lines harbor a herpesvirus (“carrier culture”). The effects of ALS on these lines differ extensively from the effects on fresh lymphocytes. Some preparations inhibited cell growth, in the absence of complement, while at low concentrations lesser and transient stimulatory effects were seen. A shift from cells resembling mature lymphocytes to blasts at the time stimulation occurred suggested there is a population of cells capable of a blastogenic response, as is seen with fresh lymphocytes. Virus infection was not enhanced and interferon production was not stimulated by ALS treatment, unlike the effect of ALS on fresh lymphocytes. ALS appears to have some surface-mediated actions on these cell lines, as evidenced by cell clumping, adherence of debris (observed by electron microscopy), and detection of ALS by indirect immunofluorescence." @default.
