- W2022233408 abstract "We report far-infrared transmission measurements on grid-gate lateral-surface-superlattices on GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures. At sufficiently negative gate voltages, Vg, when the gated regions are completely depleted, the observed resonance is due to transitions between energy levels resulting from confinement of the remaining electrons in the ungated regions into quasi zero-dimensional quantum dots. At more positive values of Vg, before the gated regions are completely depleted, an unexpected splitting is observed in the resonance. Transmission spectra were also taken from a grating-gate sample and a sample without gate. The energy structure and allowed optical transitions of a 2DEG in a 2D periodic potential and a magnetic field are calculated. These results are used to discuss the observed splitting." @default.
