In the part of the channel most affected by sewage Chironomus thummi is the dominant species comprising at least 99 % of all chironomid species, with a maximum abundance of 44 099 ind./m2. There is an increase in species diversity below the power station as an effect of selfpurification of the water. The differences in the abundance and length of generations do not show a correlation to increased water temperature. The aberrations of the labial plates are due to industrial effluents, such may be heavy metals." @default.
