Values of k at 1 mg humics/1 were approximately one order of magnitude greater than those at 20 mg/l at all CaCl 2 concentrations studied (0.001–0.5 M ). The enhanced stability does not appear to be due to charge stabilisation, since electrophoretic mobilities were almost independent of the extent of adsorption. Steric stabilisation at high adsorption density is a likely explanation. Interpretation of the results is complicated by the increase (up to 4–6 fold) in humic adsorption with CaCl 2 concentration." @default.
