Abstract The West Casa Blanca Field in-situ combustion project was initiated in February, 1967 with air injection into the Cole reservoir. The field, which is located near Freer, Texas, contained 16 pumping oil wells with an average production of 62 barrels of oil per day prior to ignition. Primary recovery from the 1,030' reservoir had been 1.1 million barrels of oil, or 28 percent of the original oil in place. By the end of May, 1967 production had increased to 160 BOPD with air injection of 1,500 Mcf per day. A burn front was formed as evidenced by the appearance of carbon dioxide gases in the producing wells.
