- W2022279667 abstract "In chronic unrestrained cats spontaneous electrospinographic (ESG) activity was recorded from the surface of the lumbar enlargement of the spinal cord and at various depths within it. ESG slow waves at 3–5 c/sec, 50–200 μV, appeared on the dorsal surface and within the dorsal columns in coincidence with the REM of desynchronized sleep. A similar activity, reversed in polarity, was present in the zona intermedia, ventral horn, anterior funiculi and ventral surface of the spinal cord. Supraspinal influences responsible for the appearance of above-mentioned phenomena run in the ventral part of lateral funiculi, as indicated by chronic spinal partial section at thoracic level. ESG slow waves persist after chronic complete bilateral rhizotomy from L4 to S3. ESG slow potentials may occur synchronously with pontine waves and muscular twitches of desynchronized sleep. However, this correlation was not strict and spinal potentials could be recorded independently from the other two short lasting phenomena. The results suggest that the ESG slow waves can be related to phasic depolarization of primary afferents to the spinal cord during desynchronized sleep." @default.
