- W2022301437 abstract "In previous investigations of the JB-1 ascites tumour we demonstrated increasing fractions of resting cells with G1 DNA content (Q1 cells) as well as of resting cells with G2 DNA content (Q2 cells) with increasing age and mass of the tumour. The present study of the JB-1 ascites tumour in immuno-suppressed mice (subjected to 400-rad whole-body irradiation 24 hr before inoculation) was undertaken in order to investigate the role of a possible immune reaction against the tumour cells for the accumulation of these Q1 and Q2 cells. The experimental data, viz. growth curve, and continuous labelling experiments combined with cytophotometry, showed, first, identical growth of the tumours in the irradiated and non-irradiated mice and, secondly, preserved accumulation of Q1 and Q2 cells in the irradiated mice. These non-cycling cells re-entered the cell cycle after removal of most of the tumour in the plateau phase, or after transplantation of cells from plateau tumours to new hosts. The present results, which are identical with those previously obtained with the tumour carried by normal mice, lend further support to the assumption that the accumulation of non-cycling cells in the ageing JB-1 ascites tumour is of a non-immunological nature." @default.
