- W2022316144 abstract "1. The effect of intravascular hypoxia, with or without extravascular hypoxia, on vasoconstrictor responses to nervous stimulation and intravascular noradrenaline of isolated mesenteric arterial vasculature from chicken (Gallus domesticus) and duckling (Anas platyrhynchos) were compared. 2. Intravascular hypoxia alone produced greater reduction of responses to both stimuli in duckling probably due to the greater arterial diffusion distance for oxygen. 3. Simultaneous intra- and extravascular hypoxia depressed the response to intravascular noradrenaline to a significantly smaller extent than that to nervous stimulation with no significant difference between species. 4. In duckling the pO2 below which responses decreased rapidly was 70 mm Hg for nervous stimulation but 40 mm Hg for intravascular noradrenaline. 5. Nervously mediated vasoconstriction did not appear to be more resistant to hypoxia in duckling mesentery. However the findings suggest a rôle for circulating catecholamines in sustaining vasoconstriction in ducks during prolonged dives." @default.
