- W2022375036 abstract "Results following percutaneous Kirschner wire fixation of unstable closed simple (one fracture line) and bicondylar hand fractures are the ‘gold standard’ by which all other treatment methods are compared. Kirschner wires may be inserted into undisplaced fractures of either stable (transverse or nearly transverse) or unstable (oblique or bicondylar) configuration that may be anticipated to displace either spontaneously or with unresisted exercises and into similar displaced fractures following closed reduction. Kirschner wire insertion causes little additional soft tissue trauma adjacent to the fracture, thus minimising the risk of stiffness due to surgery. Good to excellent results are reliably achieved in the vast majority of cases in terms of healing, alignment, stability, digital motion, and residual pain." @default.
