- W2022386404 abstract "Fluorescent pigments were first produced on a commercial scale in the mid 1940s, [ 1 ] and are now used in a variety of applications. Almost all fluorescent colours available are highly conjugated and unsaturated organic dyes dispersed in organic thermoplastic or thermosetting resins. Their bright appearance is caused by their ability to convert incident light into light of similar wavelength to the reflected light, resulting in an apparent reflectance greater than 100%. [ 2 ] Modem artists like Howard Arkley (1951-1999) have used fluorescent paints (Fig. 1) in order to produce optically vivid paintings. Problems with conventional colour measurement and identification using methods such as Raman [ 3 ] or UV-VIS spectroscopy were encountered: The use of three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy (3DF) is currently being examined as an alternative technique." @default.
