- W2022772517 abstract "Hot-wire anemometry is still a major research tool for the study of turbulent flow. Following the publication of the general book on Hot-wire Anemometry by H H Bruun in 1995 there has been a need for an up-to-date description of some of the more advanced hot-wire anemometry methods. The book Multiple Hot-wire Probes by experts in this field P V Vukoslavcevic and D V Petrovic makes a significant contribution to the very advanced research techniques of multiple hot-wire probes. The book was produced `in house' in Yugoslavia under rather difficult circumstances, which unfortunately has affected the quality of the English language. However, in my opinion the book is scientifically of a high standard. Chapter 2 contains a brief description of turbulence and its measurements with a well discussed comparative review of hot- wire anemometry and laser Doppler anemometry. Chapter 3 contains a general review of constant-temperature hot-wire anemometry and the related signal analysis. The authors cover all the relevant aspects with some significant discussions on feedback circuits and hot-wire cooling velocities. Figures are relevant, although somewhat crude in places. The main theme of the book Multiple Hot-wire Probes is introduced in chapter 4 with reference to the measurement of turbulent velocity fields. This section contains a well laid out presentation of the many contributions in this field, ranging from single-sensor to eight-sensor probes. The signal analysis of multi-wire probes is often somewhat complicated and this chapter could have benefited from a longer signal analysis content. In chapter 5 the use of multiple hot-wire probes for measurements of turbulent vorticity fields is discussed. This is a major aspect of the book which also reflects the significant research contribution by the authors in this area. This chapter correctly contains a significant description of the related signal analysis for some of the multiple hot-wire probes with a natural emphasis on the authors' work. Chapter 6 contains a discussion of the operational principles of multiple hot-wire probes. The optimal number of hot-wires and their configurations are defined and tested for turbulent flow measurements. Chapter 7 contains a discussion of generalized numerical procedures for various multiple hot-wire probes. Multiple hot-wire probes are very useful albeit complicated research techniques for the study of turbulent flow. The book gives a good scientific overview of this topic and is recommended reading for researchers using hot-wire anemometry. H H Bruun" @default.
