- W2022781019 abstract "ABSTRACT This article reports the results of a cross-cultural study carried out on job-related perceptions and motivations of business students and managers in the People's Republic of China and Canada. The major research objective was to investigate how the achievement motivation of Chinese, the characteristics they look for in employment, their value systems, and their general perceptions of attributes of business enterprises differed from those of the Canadians. The results indicated that the Chinese were less independent, individualistic and materialistic than the Canadians. Chinese emphasized socially oriented terminal values and morally oriented instrumental values and Canadians emphasized personally oriented terminal values and competence oriented instrumental values. Social recognition and a prestigious job were more important to Chinese than Canadians. Chinese were also more critical of private business enterprises' social performance than the Canadians." @default.
