- W2022951183 abstract "Abstract A method was developed to quantitatively determine vitamin A and vitamin A acid in blood plasma. Of particular significance was the observation that, when crystalline vitamin A acid, dissolved in chloroform, was incubated for 2 hr in the presence of a few drops of acetic anhydride prior to the addition of antimony trichloride reagent, the absorbancy was increased and increased precision of the analysis resulted. Following the oral administration of vitamin A acid to the pig, plasma vitamin A acid concentration reached a maximum between 1.5 and 3 hr, then decreased until none could be detected after 8 hr. When vitamin A acid-6,7- 14 C was orally administered, the time course of the total radioactivity of the vitamin A acid extract closely followed that of vitamin A acid determined by the antimony trichloride method. No radioactivity could be attributed to vitamin A acid 24 hr after feeding, although some radioactivity was present in the whole blood and plasma." @default.
