- W2022953821 abstract "Abstract A simple single silica gel chromatographic step was developed to separate all the major lipid classes present in a freshwater strain of Phaeodactylum tricornutum. The method involved stepwise elusion of triacylglycerols, two galactolipids, a sulpholipid, an unknown acyl lipid, and a phospholipid, by sequentially increasing the polarity of the eluting solvent. The principal lipid components as a percentage of total lipid were monogalactosyl-diacylglycerols (31.4%), triacylglycerols (19.1%), digalactosyldiacylglycerols (16.4%), sulphoquinovosyldiacylglycerol (19.4%), phosphatidylcholine (4.5%) and an unknown acyl lipid (9.3%). The distribution of fatty acids in each lipid class was characterized. The ω-3 fatty acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, which constituted 25.2% of the total acids, was present in all lipid classes. The other predominant fatty acid components were 16:1, 16:0, 16:4 and 14:0 which constituted 29.2%, 14.5%, 8.3% and 5.6% of the total fatty acids, respectively." @default.
