The Behaviour of F Acids in the Oxidation with Lipoxidase in the Presence of SH-Containing Compounds If cells are damaged, furancarboxylic acids (F acids) 1 are oxidized by liberated enzymes to very unstable dioxoenes 2. It is shown by in vitro incubation experiments that these substances react very easily with thiols, e.g. ethanėthiol, cysteine, or glutathione, to thioethers 3 and 4, which may suffer further oxidation. These oxidation products react again with thiols to give finally dithio ethers 5. The identification of these novel glutathione and cysteine conjugates was achieved by HPLC/LSIMS and in the case of ethanethiol by GC/MS." @default.
