• W2023131973 abstract "This paper shows that using suitable electronics it is possible to obtain good plateaux with counters filled with unpurified CO2, without addition of foreign gases. For instance, at a pressure of 300 torr the plateau has a length of 600 V and a slope of 0·35 per cent/100 V only. At 760 torr the values are 1200 V and 0·25 per cent/100 V. The influences on the plateau of the amplification, of electronic quenching, as well as of added air, water vapour, benzene vapour or carbon disulphide vapour are examined. Estimates of the gas amplification as a function of applied voltage are presented. The simplicity of the procedure and the quality of the plateau make possible the rapid, precise and sensitive routine assay of radiocarbon by the method described. On montre qu'il est possible, en utilisant un circuit récemment developpé, d'obtenir de bons paliers avec des compteurs remplis du CO2 non-purifié, sans additions. Par example, avec une pression de 300 torr le palier est long de 600 V et la pente n'est que de 0·35 pour cent/100 V. Avec 760 torr, les valeurs sont 1200 V et 0·25 pour cent/100 V.
