- W2023179712 abstract "Expressions describing plume and ceiling jet flows available from the research literature have been presented and reviewed. These expressions can be used to predict convective heat transfer from these flows and the rate of development of a layer of combustion products above a fire in an enclosure. A number of examples of the use of these expressions have been given in which radiation heat transfer and internal resistance to heat transfer have been ignored for simplicity. These simplifying assumptions are likely to be violated in many applications considering structural failure and material ignition. However, in problems involving detector activation the simplifying assumptions used in the examples are generally correct. Inclusion of radiation and conduction in the analysis does not invalidate the expressions presented here, but will generally complicate the calculations if not make numerical solutions necessary." @default.
