- W2023185617 abstract "The superheating and supercooling of lead and bismuth inclusions in aluminum has been studied by differential thermal analysis and hot-stage electron microscopy. No superheating effects were observed; melting of the inclusions is thought to start at the inclusionmatrix interface and the volume change accompanying melting is accommodated by nucleation and climb of fresh dislocations, or by climb of existing dislocations at the inclusion-matrix interface. Appreciable supercoolings were found; 20 – 35°C for Pb inclusions, and 90 – 180°C for Bi inclusions. The volume change on freezing was accommodated by dislocation “punching”. The supercooling observations are in good agreement with previous work by Sundquist and Mondolfo, (11) and Takahashi and Tiller (7). Résumé La surchauffe et la surfusion d’inclusions de plomb et de bismuth dans l’aluminium ont été étudiées par analyse thermique différentielle et microscopic électronique à platine chauffante. Aucun effet de surchauffe ne fut observé; on suggère que la fusion des inclusions débute à l'interface inclusion-matrice et que le changement de volume associé à la fusion est compensé par la germination et la montée de nouvelles dislocations ou par la montée de dislocations existent à l'interface inclusion-matrice. On a observé des surfusions importantes, soit 20 – 35°C pour les inclusions de Pb et 90 – 180°C pour les inclusions de Bi. Le changement de volume lors de la solidification est compensé par l' émission de dislocations par le phénomène de «opoinçonnage». Les observations lors de la surfusion concordent bien avec les résultats de Sundquist et Mondolfo, et Takahashi et Tiller." @default.
