• W2023188426 abstract "The purpose of this experimental research is to investigate the problem of interface in MCDSS with respect to information display using Visual Interactive Display (VID) and Procedural Text Assessment (PTA), and methods in Multiattribute Utility Theory (MAUT) using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Direct Trade-off (DT). The research also considers task complexity as the intervening variable. The investigation involved a laboratory experiment with the subjects performing a decision-making task using one of the eight configurations of the software developed for the experiment. Sixty-four subjects were asked to assess the profile of a hypothetical set of candidates seeking admission as freshman to a university and to make a decision as to whether to accept or to reject the candidates.The research findings were focused on (1) the process behavior of the subject, and (2) the design elements of MCDSS interface. The most important finding about process was that there was a correlation between the sequence of the attributes accessed by the subjects and the rank of the attributes' weights perceived by the subjects, in performing a decision-choice task involving multiple criteria. This finding suggests that the subjects' actions on data acquisition were guided by their cognitive preference of the attributes; i.e., the attribute which was perceived as most important was accessed first followed by the next important attribute and so on. Other findings on process include: (1) the data acquisition direction was by attributes; (2) all data was not utilized for a decision-making task; and (3) there was no specific direction for the evaluation process.The findings about design showed the importance of the interaction effect between display and model in the weight estimations and the assessment effort. However, the interaction effect between display and task was also important in the system's capability to predict choices and the assessment iterations. Other findings on design include: (1) MAUT methods affect weight estimates and the consistency index; (2) display affects the estimation of the main attribute; and (3) task affects the total experimental time." @default.
