- W2023191715 abstract "Le Zotte, 1952). Life history studies, which have been so fruitful in elucidating affinities of other groups, have been lacking so far as the BIVESICULIDAE is concerned. However, what is obviously the cercaria of a member of this group was included merely as a photomicrograph in a recent paper by Hutton (1952). MATERIALS AND METHODS The usual methods of studying cercariae were used. Care was necessary, however, that data of a descriptive nature be obtained from fully developed larvae because of a tendency to emerge before the body is retracted into the tail or even full size is attained. This was especially true after infected snails were kept in the laboratory for a period of time, because often redia as well as incompletely developed Received for publication, September 1, 1953. 1 Based on a thesis in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Purdue University. This study was made during 1951-52 when the writer had the opportunity to work under the direction of Prof. R. M. Cable (Fellow, John Simon Guggenheim Foundation), who was then engaged in investigating the marine digenetic trematodes of Puerto Rico. The writer wishes to acknowledge also the assistance of Profs. N. T. Mattox, Luis R Rivas, and Mr. Donald Erdman in the collection and identification of hosts." @default.
