- W2023228437 abstract "ABSTRACT Angular- resolved synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopyand reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) are used tostudy the MBE growth and the thermal stability of a- Sn /CdTe(110) and CdTe /a- Sn(110) interfaces. Both interfaces are found to be sta- ble, nonreactive, and abrupt for growth temperatures up to 100 C.At the a- SnlCdTe interface we measured a valence band offset of DEv = 1.1eV. Shifts in the Sn4d core level and valence band spec- tra suggest a bandgap in a 50 monolayer (ML) thick a -Sn film of at least DE5 > 200meV. Stable superlattices of a- Sn /CdTe(110) have been grown at 100 C. The surface quality of the superstructuredegrades after the growth of several a- SnlCdTe periods. After the growth of 10 periods each 50 ML thick, the RHEED pattern showsmainly three dimensional bulk diffraction, indicating increased sur-face and interface roughness. 1. INTRODUCTION Recent developments in the growth of thin superlattice structures ofgroup IV and III -V semiconductors will bring significant advancesto the performances of novel electro- optical devices. The electronicproperties of superstructures differs from that of the individual su-perlattice constituents since the additional periodicity produces sub -bands by forcing the Brillioun zone to fold back on itself and the banddiscontinuities at the interfaces between the two materials give rise tospacially confined quantum well states for both electrons and holes.'The electronic properties of the two superlattice components deter-" @default.
