- W2023242044 abstract "The effect of certain aromatic acids on enzyme systems of importance in cerebral metabolism has been investigated. The acids studied are those which are retained in acute renal failure or closely related compounds. The enzymes include 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine decarboxylase, 5-hydroxytryptophan decarboxylase, glutamicoxaloacetic and glutamic-pyruvic transaminases, glutamic acid decarboxylase, 5'-nucleotidase, amine oxidase and lactic dehydrogenase. Respiration and anaerobic glycolysis were also observed. Profound differences in sensitivity were observed with different enzymes. Many aromatic acids, especially those with an unsaturated sidechain, depressed the reaction rates of the enzymes." @default.
