- W2023280768 abstract "Our material consists of eleven Ap stars of the Cr-Eu or Sr variety for which plate material obtained by H. W. Babcock was available. The plates were taken for magnetic field studies and generously loaned to the writers. We had only one spectrogram per star at our disposal, having a dispersion of 2, 8-4, 5, or 9 Â/mm. Details of the plates studied are given in Table I. The group assignation was taken from Bertaud (1959). There are some slight differences with the classifications given by Osawa (1965), which are not serious, except in the case of HD 56495 which Osawa calls Am. We have kept the star in the Ap group, however, because of Babcock's description (Babcock 1958). The plates of HD 15144 and HD 216533 were measured in the conventional way, with a plate-measuring engine. A complete identification of all lines was made and will be published elsewhere. The other plates were not measured, but only traced with a microphotometer at very low speed. The lines in the spectra of the other stars could be identified by comparing the tracings with the lines identified on tracings of HD 15144, HD 216533, and 73 Dra. Our main interest was concentrated on the presence of the elements belonging to the Os-Ir-Pt peak and therefore we searched for osmium, iridium, platinum, gold, mercury, and uranium. The wavelengths for the identification were taken from Meggers, Corliss, and Scribner (1961) and Moore (1959). For osmium and platinum, the papers of van Kleef (1960) and Dvoretsky (1969) were used respectively." @default.
