- W2023281621 abstract "Abstract A series of measurements has been carried out to estimate the effects of temperature transients on cast iron and steel residual magnetism. Both superficial and bulk magnetization has been considered. Bulk magnetization measurements have been carried out with a torsional balance whereas superficial ones have been done with a procedure developed by the authors with the utilization of a Hall effect gaussmeter. Measurements pointed out that residual magnetism has a strong dependence on temperature also for values much lower than the Curie point of the different materials. The same dependence has been noticed for temperature variations both positive and negative with respect to the value of the initial magnetization. The magnetization of ferromagnetic objects shows a sharp decrease (80% of the initial value in the worst case) in intensity with either increasing or decreasing temperature. This decrease happens after one or two thermal cycles between two fixed temperatures and a weak and reversible dependence remains for temperature values lying in the range of the cycle. The duration of the temperature treatment has no influence on the magnetization reduction. Further cycles between temperatures outside the range of the previous treatments produce a new decrease of magnetization intensity." @default.
