- W2023326955 abstract "The ratio of the density of plasma electrons or ions, in excess of those required for neutralization, to the electron density in the beam generating the plasma is calculated. It is assumed that ambipolar diffusion is the only mechanism by which these particles drain from the system once the beam is neutralized. Curves of the ratio, as a function of pressure and beam voltage, are given for hydrogen and nitrogen plasmas. Agreement of a result for an argon plasma with experiment is good. In hydrogen, the density of secondary electrons or ions becomes comparable to the beam density at pressures of the order of 10−3 Torr; in nitrogen, the densities are comparable nearer 10−5 Torr. However, since the wave interactions that occur in a system will depend on the relative magnitudes of the components' plasma frequencies, interactions between the beam and secondary plasma electrons may be of importance at pressures lower than those cited." @default.
