- W2023361026 abstract "Abstract Squibb (1959) did not observe any adverse effects on feed utilization, egg size and production, and the physical well-being of New Hampshire chickens housed in 5 distinct environmental areas having ambient temperatures ranging from freezing to tropical. As an explanation for this apparent lack of agreement with published reports, it was reasoned that the extreme widths of the diurnal temperature ranges of Central American areas reduced the stress on the bird. Based on these data, Squibb proposed a working hypothesis that stress would be imposed with increasing intensity as (a) diurnal temperature range narrows as mean temperature departs in either direction from 72°F., and (b) when there is an abrupt change in temperature in either direction from that to which the animals have been acclimated. A flock of 56 White Leghorn hens 9 months of age was divided randomly into 2 groups consisting of 15 and 41 birds, respectively. The …" @default.
