In recent years, advances in the knowledge of methionine adenosyltransferases have been significant. The discovery of nuclear localization of these enzymes suggests their transport to provide the methyl donor, S-adenosylmethionine, for DNA and histone methyltransferases in epigenetic modifications, opening new regulatory possibilities. Previous hypotheses considered only the cytoplasmic regulation of these enzymes, hence the need of an update to integrate recent findings. Here, we focus mainly on the liver and redox mechanisms, and their putative effects on localization and interactions of methionine adenosyltransferases." @default.
